Happy October! Here at SERC, we hope you are all taking the time to care for yourselves this midterm season! This month is a time of community solidarity and dialogue. Allow yourself to recognize and support those around you during this time!

Climate Justice Week will be held on October 25-29th.

We wanted to give one last reminder to organizations and individuals thinking of hosting an event

Please fill out this form to confirm your event, timeslots are becoming limited. If you're interested in hosting an event, don't hesitate to contact us.

If you've been rolling around an event idea in your head, or are looking for something to help get the word out for your organization or an issue you care about, now's your chance! SERC would love to support you in any way possible, and we welcome a host of different ideas and perspectives.

Join us for a two week campaign collaboration with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Alliance for Fair Food to raise awareness about injustices in our food systems and to fight for the human rights of farmworkers!

HADSA and Cal Dining are helping to put on an amazing fair trade dinner at Cafe 3! October 7th 4:30-9PM

listen on a main presentation from farmworkers learn more about the Fair Food movement they have spearheaded. See farmworkers coming together in community and actively organizing in the face of daunting obstacles. October 12th 5:30-6:30PM

Join our group Art-build October 13th

These events are all to culminate awareness by action in front of DoorDash HQ in SF.

October 15th @4-6PM.

Let's urge the company to support farmworkers by #DeliverWithDignity and #BoycottingWendys.

SERC is so excited to support CIW and AFF’s fair food movement and to show that the UC Berkeley community stands in solidarity and calls for justice in our food systems. This issue impacts all of us and we hope that we can show our presence and support in this crucial movement.

The 2021 Virtual Smart Growth Summit

is in full swing, and as part of this year’s Summit, uplifting the voices of tomorrow is what we aim to do at the Fresh Takes for the Future panel happening Nov 18th

Get money for you or your student org from SERC & TGIF through the Eco Fund!!

Folks at SERC & TGIF are so excited to announce the Eco Fund! We’re providing mini-mini grants for organizations putting on environmental events and people that need assistance participating in environmental classes on campus.

We have a sum of $5,000 to allocate each semester. So if you need money to help pay for food, guest speakers, or other incentives for your environmental event or if you need help paying for a textbook, lab equipment, or any other school materials, apply for money HERE!

The Brian Gialketsis SERQueer Scholarship

The name SERQueer comes from the group that Brian and other SERC alumni created in 2018, a group they described as “a community space for queer students working on environmental sustainability & justice”. Read more about the scholarship HERE

$1,000 scholarships will be rewarded to five students selected by the SERQueer Scholarship Review Committee.

Eligibility:

- Registered UC Berkeley student (both undergraduate and graduate)

- Queer Identifying

- Passionate about Environmentalism (this does not have to be your field of study)

The 2021 application is this Google Form Application due November 1st @5pm PST.

The Green Initiative Fund Fall 2021 Mini-Grant

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is now accepting proposals for the 2021 Fall Mini-Grant Cycle!

Students, faculty members, and/or staff members are eligible to apply for funding. TGIF funds projects that focus on environmental sustainability and environmental justice. TGIF hosts a fall mini-grant cycle for projects up to $5,000 and a larger spring grant cycle for projects $5,000 or above.

Fall 2021 Mini-Grant Deadline: Friday, October 22nd by 5pm -> APPLY HERE!

We are also recruiting for two paid student representative positions for those interested in environmental sustainability to sit on our Committee. We are recruiting for both an Undergraduate At-Large student rep, as well as an Environmental Justice-At-Large student rep position.
